This coming Sunday (12/12) we will be watching the latest Tim Hawkins DVD for MYF. From 6-8pm in church basement. Anyone is welcome. If you come at 5pm, you can get some supper. Here is a little taste of his comedy....
"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." ~Hebrews 12:2

193 -- How can we take a stand for what is right?
First things First....remember that it always starts with Jesus. We need to have a relationship with Him and then everything else starts to make more sense and starts to become important to us.
So remember all the parts of putting together the simple circuit...
1. God EMPOWERS us through His Holy Spirit (the battery)
2. God GUIDES us through prayer (the wires)
3. God SPEAKS through His Word (the instruction page)
4. God DESIRES that we hang out with Christian friends (the electrical tape)
5. LIMIT our intake of secular entertainment (if I had given you useless random items)
God doesn't ask us to take up His life and then leave us in the lurch....He empowers us, guides us, and speaks to us. Pretty amazing stuff.

MYF on 9.19.10
This was voted the worst flavor of jelly bean....

Main Points from the lesson:
1. It ALL starts with having a relationship with God through Jesus!!
2. Jesus said that He came to give us life, and life to the fullest. He also said that we are to seek God's Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to us.
3. So making right / Godly decisions is part of that life. Right decisions build our character (remember the story of Joseph); right decisions protect us (remember the story of the empty swimming pool); right decisions provide for us (remember the higher perspective in a corn maze); right decisions help you set an example to your peers (remember that people are watching you....be a leader).

Stay Alert
By Leslie Snyder
"Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." 1 Peter 5:8 (TEV)
Early Native Americans were some of the best hunters in history. A combination of patience, wisdom, knowledge of the natural world and respect for their place in it resulted in the skillful artistry of the hunt. One tactic in particular illustrates this beautifully.
When hunting buffalo on the Great Plains, hunters would cover themselves in buffalo hides and carefully approach the grazing herd virtually unnoticed. With ease and skill, the hunters would kill dozens of buffalo before the rest of the herd was aware of the intruders. When the herd finally realized the attack, they would stampede, but by this time the hunters had retreated to safety. Once the herd cleared, the successful hunters returned to retrieve their kill.
We have a word for this type of infiltration today and it is called desensitization. When people are sensitive to something, they are keenly aware of what is happening around them physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Therefore, when we become desensitized, we become dull to what once drew our attention. This is a spiritual landmine and one that deserves our consideration. Eugene Peterson’s paraphrase of the Bible, The Message, gives the warning this way: “Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up.”
It is likely that today many of us can be caught napping, not paying attention to the bells and whistles going off around us. We live in a society where we are surrounded by pride, envy, deceit, division, selfishness and many other ills. I suspect that much of this doesn’t even raise a red flag with us anymore. As a people of God, we are called to stay alert. May today be our wake-up call.

166--The Dirt on Dating
Main Points:
1. Dating is a process/practice for marriage. Remember the quote "you play how you practice", so participate in dating the right way.
2. Pros of dating: getting to know the kind of people who like you; getting to know the kind of people you like; getting to know yourself; setting boundaries
3. Cons of dating: stunting your personal growth; breaking boundaries; getting so caught up in someone else that you lose yourself and your passions/interests
Have more pros and/or cons? Add to the list.
